Wedding ceremony in the Muslim religion is believed a holy union according to Islamic law. In the Muslim community, a wedding is known as “Nikaah”. Though the wedding rituals of Urdushaadi are quite different from the others but celebrate traditionally. There is no auspicious date and time need to set for a wedding. The wedding is performed at the time and date fixed by both the families. The Muslim community resides in various parts of India start from the northern states of Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Haryana to the southern states of Tamil Naidu, Kerala and Karnataka. The customs, way of living, food habits are slightly different from other religions. No matter their area of living, customs connected with Muslim wedding are the same all over. The wedding venue is either held in the bride’s home or small banquet hall. The Muslim community is very strict to their customs and followed sincerely.

Istikhara: This first ritual towards Muslim wedding starts after finding an exact match through marriage sites or by the help of Parents. Once the perfect match get, the religious head pray to Allah to bless the couple.

Imam-Zamin: In this ritual, the bride’s mother-in-law visits her house along with some sweets, gifts, and jewelry. All these things covered with silk cloth which ties in the bride hand.

Mangni: It is an official engagement ceremony held between the bride and groom in the presence of the family members and relatives. Couple exchange rings which signify they are bound together. 

Heena: Bride hands and feet are decorated with attractive Arabic designs. Previously the house ladies accomplish this task. Nowadays, professional artists hired to do this task.

Manjha: Only ladies involvement is necessary to perform this ritual. Married ladies apply the paste of turmeric and oil on the bride’s hands, forehead and feet. The bride dressed in yellow outfit. 

Sanchaq: The bride supposed to wear the outfit on the day of Nikaah which offer by the groom’s family.

Baraat: The bride’s family welcomes the groom’s family. The groom comes in a decorated car and step out and enter in the wedding hall.

Nikah: This is the main ceremony where the bride and the groom stated as husband and wife followed some formal procedure. The bride and the groom sit separately and partition with the cloth so they both don’t see each other face. The Molvi start the Nikah process after reading the prayer from the Quran. The Molvi asks the bride three times, whether she is ready to accept the groom as a husband. Similarly, this procedure is also applied to the groom. When both said yes, the Nikahnama is signed by the newly married couple.

Arsi Mushraf: In this ceremony, couple is seated by facing each other but their heads are covered with cloth. A mirror is placed between them and the holy Quran placed on their top. The couple is allowed to see each other image through the mirror.

Rukhsat: This is very emotional ceremony where the bride needs to leave her parent house. When she enters her in new house, the holy Quran is placed on her head as to remind her duties and responsibility for the new family members.

Chauthi: The bride arrives to her parent house along with husband after the fourth day of the Nikah. The newlywed pair treated with grand lunch and offers some gifts.

Windup: Wedding in Muslim community has great significance. Urdushaadi is evident as “Nikah” which has unique charm and fascination of its own. The reason behind called wedding as nikah is that, Muslim people don’t believe in finding accurate time and date for wedding. They fix the wedding as per the convenience of the family and the couple.
